Work of Art - ADDICTING!!!

I am slowly becoming a fan of this reality nightmare, now that Nao is gone I can respect the show.  I know artists need ego to sell their work and to get on a reality show, but have some manners!!  I do not like when lack of upbringing becomes apparant in a person's demeanor towards others.

Beth Stoneberg Opening

BEAUTIFUL WORK!!!  My friend Mary and I went to see Beth and Ann at the opening and it was spectacular.  Kudos to both of them for a beautiful installation. And kisses to Mary for all the fun!

Birch's Restaurant is now showing art and is having the first of many art openings, featuring local artists. The first show is with St. Paul painter Beth Stoneberg who creates dramatic and sleek abstract works made from Birch plywood and oil paint. The art work will be on display until Labor Day. The public is invited to an opening reception Tuesday, June 29 from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Rescue Me - Season Starts JUNE 29TH!!!! 9:00 PM!!!!

Great drama, huge comedy and it can bring you to your knees with the emotional roller coaster of Tommy Gavin's life.  The writing has its ups and downs, more ups than downs and when it's on, it's smack in your face hard core adrenaline emotion good or bad.  Dennis Leary has said this is all winding down to the end, so I think he'll go balls to the wall like usual and bring some clever surprises and cliff hangers.  Leary is fearless and always hanging off that precipice of life, so you'll never know what you'll get.

COMING JULY 24TH!!!!!
Stay tuned and I'll fill you in on more information as soon as I have it!  It should be a fun time.

This is the logo I've designed for the event.

Nick Hornby - An Education : A screenplay

This is the screenplay for the movie and not the novel by Lynn Barber.  I am going to read both because this was great, but creepy.  If that was my daughter, ick!  Can we not see through the smarmy charm?  To let your daughter be in situations that cause her to be manipulated by an older man?  I enjoy Nick Hornby's writing and find him clever and funny.  I have to read Lynn's book to see if he succeeded in his adaptation, but I did enjoy it and finished it on treadmill.

Sizzling Sixteen

I was still feeling so horrendous after watching Grace, from Saving Grace get blown up last night - didn't see that really happening.  Wow, what a finale.  I was so sad to see the remaining characters standing there and having to go on without her in their lives.  It was really hard to watch.  I hope they all win tons of Emmys for their work.

So feeling empty and depressed, who calls but my awesome friend Deb!  She said she has been to Target and has the new Janet Evanovich!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy again!!!!  Deb is a friend who always knows how to make me happy and just does tons of nice things just because she can.  She is my own angel and we all need one.  I am blessed to have her in my life.

So onto Joe Morelli, Lulu, Ranger, Grandma and Stephanie.................YEAH!!!!

Nurse Jackie

I am finally getting into Nurse Jackie.  Liz Brixius, who I went to Vis with and helped me a lot in art and and Vis life, wrote and produced it.  She was always an absolutely over the top genius at art and writing.  I always admired her tremendously.  When I was moving I came across a print that she had made at St Kate's.  It is a cool pastel print of a pack of Marlboroughs.  We smoked a ton of them in Studio Arts and she knew how much I would love it and I do!

So, I get it because of Liz and started watching. The show didn't really grab me at first.  I thought it was trying to be so edgy and hard driving.  After 9 episodes I can say that I am fond of Jackie and am starting to care about her and her misfits at the hospital.  I am still confused as to why she would have an affair when she has a gorgeous loving husband at home.  The pharmacist is nothing to write home about, unless she just wants the drugs.

I don't have Showtime, so I watch it from Netflix.  I have to order the new boxes from Comcast, so I am sure my bill will increase into some astronomical number.  My Dad would be appalled that I pay so much for TV!

Lily's Crossing

A sweet and compassionate account of life in the States during WW II.
War changes everything is what Lily learns during the summer spent at Rockaway by the Atlantic Ocean.  She learns the meaning of true friendship and what it takes to be real friend.  She might have to tell the truth and stop all the lies that could cost her new friend his life.

End of Saving Grace

“I’m not going to church”

“Who said anything about church? You can go to temple, go to a mosque, heck, Grace – go sit in a dang tree if that’ll get you closer to God.”

The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod: Twelfth Grade Kills

This title will be released on September 21, 2010 - Bummer!!!  I thought it was coming out this month, but it will make going back to school a lot more fun.

I hope the series continues on to college................

Son of the Mob - Hollywood Hustle

Fast paced, laugh out loud funny novel!  Second in the series and the first, Son of the Mob, was just as hysterical.  Great premise - son of one of the top crime families, Vince Luca is off to film school in LA. His girlfriend is down the road at a music school and best friend, Alex is in nearby Las Vegas.  The mob makes its way to LA too with Vince setting up headquarters in his dorm room.  Lots of relationships with compelling characters that draw you in with quick dialog and lots of action packed situations.
A good read for reluctant male readers.

Dead is The New Black - Marlene Perez

A fun and suspenseful read.  Psychic powers, Nancy Drew without the twin sweater sets and teen angst all rolled into one mystery. Great cover too.  Characters make me laugh and I care about them. It is a series with potential........

5th book - Thirsty

I was excited after reading the back of the book thinking  it would be a lot like Vladimer Todd Chronicles....WRONG.  It had engaging, smarmy teen dialog that was actually very quick and funny, but I could see the plot unraveling the whole time.  I knew exactly what was going to happen to the main character and I didn't happen to like him much, so I didn't care. In fact, if his throat got ripped apart by a vampire, CIE LA VIE.  I need to care about my main characters.

I have heard great things about this author and hoped for more. I read, Octavian Nothing and thought it was extremely well written, but I kept reading thinking that I would understand more. It left me empty and upset. I will try his other books in hopes of more.  I like his dialogue exchanges and hope his characters become more likable.

I think what I don't like with his books is the thought and feeling that a series is planned and that is what I get off of all his books,  I think good series books can supplement a book, but have to be an entire entity on it's own.  They must hold their own, not have to depend on another book.

I listened to M.T. when he sat a panel at Metro State University.  He is very intelligent, witty and comfortable with his stature in life. What I, and the others around me got from him was that he was more impressed with another female author and impressing her, than his audience.  I don't like when authors are impressed with their intelligence.  As readers, we already are and acknowledge that with our presence at their discussions. We don't need to be dismissed as trivial, not up to their par or party to their intellectual dalliances.

I hope to one day be entertained by a story of Mr. Anderson's and not just awed by his command of the written word.

Saving Grace

I am so sad that this show is going off the air.  It is a show that has entranced me with it's drama, spirituality, comedy and pure joy.  Next week is the finale and I can't figure out how they are going to end it all. Last night's ending was pure Grace at it's height of great writing.

100 Books in a 100 days or so.....

Vampire Academy - Spirit Bound
This is one of the best vampire series that I have found. The latest installment is hard to get into, but hang in there and you'll be pleased you didn't throw it across the room when Rose is going through pages of angst.

Dimitri is back and with a vengeance to reclaim Rose to his new world.

Vampire Academy is not a series I would recommend to young students - there are mature themes running rampant. Mature readers will be able to handle, not too explicit, but definitely not for the innocent.

How to Buy a Love of Reading

Haunting....... This is a compelling, disturbing, enchanting book. Lots of twists and turns to the plot. I bought it on the $1 shelf at Borders and it sat on my to read shelf for a couple months, but it was incredible! Cool website too.

College Girl - Patricia Weitz
I think the portrayal of this girl's life is accurate, but somewhat boring. I think it is a solid story that needs some spicing up. I kept waiting for something more climatic to happen.
